Osteopathy in Dorchester

Osteopathy is a hands-on approach to healthcare that treats the whole person, not just the site of the pain. Rather than masking symptoms, we look for the underlying cause — whether that’s in your joints, muscles, posture, or the way different parts of your body are working together — and treat that directly.

It’s gentle, evidence-based, and suitable for almost everyone: from newborns to grandparents, office workers to professional athletes.

What osteopathy can help with

Osteopathy is widely used to treat:

  • Lower and upper back pain
  • Neck pain and headaches
  • Sciatica, neuralgia and fibromyalgia
  • Sports injuries and impaired performance
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Occupational strain
  • Joint pain and dysfunction in wrists, elbows, hips, knees and ankles
  • Arthritic pain
  • Postural problems
  • Pregnancy-related discomfort
  • Cranial and postural issues in babies and young children

What to expect at your first appointment

Your first visit starts with a full case history, so we understand not just your symptoms but their background — how long they’ve been going on, what makes them better or worse, and how they’re affecting your day-to-day life.

From there, we’ll carry out both a standing (active) examination and a lying-down (passive) examination to build a working diagnosis. This becomes the basis of a treatment plan personalised to you — not a generic protocol.

Treatment itself might involve hands-on work on your joints, muscles and ligaments — easing restricted movement, reducing inflammation, and improving circulation to the affected area. For babies, children, and anyone who benefits from a gentler touch, we may use cranial osteopathy: a subtle, refined technique that releases tension throughout the head and body.

Throughout your treatment, we’ll explain what we’re finding and why, and share practical advice on posture, movement and daily habits that can support your recovery between visits.
