Specialist treatments to relieve postnatal stresses for new mum and baby

Mum and baby are often subjected to considerable physical and emotional upheaval during childbirth, experiences which can have a lasting impact on both their future well–being.

We can advise on the best positions for labour that will help prevent back problems later and can prepare your pelvis for an uncomplicated delivery by ensuring its structural balance will allow baby an easier descent down the birth canal.

Our treatments will also help your body recover from the changes it made during pregnancy and delivery, as well as relieving the physical stresses of caring for baby, including:

  • Unresolved childbirth issues that can contribute to ongoing back problems, headaches, period problems, stress incontinence, constipation, even postnatal depression
  • Body strains caused by extra bending and carrying, or by adopting unsuitable nursing positions
  • Baby’s feeding, digestion or breathing difficulties and other imbalances caused by labour-induced stresses within the head and body. In these cases we may apply the gentle manipulative techniques of cranial osteopathy to release tensions.

"When my second son was struggling with colic, digestive difficulties and feeding, just one consultation transformed him from a baby who hadn’t stopped crying since coming home to a much happier little chap! Visiting the Dorchester Osteopaths has made such a difference."
Anna, Dorchester
